Sofapaka and Kenyan international forward Bob Mugalia requested for the number one jersey at the 2009 Tusker Premier League (TPL) for use in the 2013 season after changing his mind over the earlier decision to leave the team.
This is in breaking with the number nine shirt he has worn for all of his Sofapaka history and he says he did that to symbolize a fresh start both spiritually and as a player.
Speaking to futaa.com after his team’s barren draw with Ulinzi Stars on Friday 1 March at the Afraha Stadium, Mugalia said he wants to work harder in 2013 and added that he believes he will do well.
-The change in numbers is very symbolic; I decided that way because I have designed this year to be a different one - one which I am a new person spiritually and as a player. I want to work harder and I believe I will do well in the season, he said.
Mugalia is among the players called up to the Kenya national team Harambee Stars that goes to camp on Wednesday 6 March to prepare for the match against Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on Saturday 23 March.
