Mieno misses PSL chance

Humphrey Mieno
On his recent tour of  Kenya, Ajax Capetown Chairman and owner John Comitis had expressed his intention of signing Harambee Stars and Sofapaka midfielder Humphrey Mieno.

- I watched the boy (Mieno) when Sofapaka played Tusker on Monday 30th April 2012 and was totally impressed with his abilities. I liked his movement both off and on-ball. I will send my scouts to watch him and make further assessments when the second leg begins and then hopefully we can sign him, Comitis had revealed to futaa.com in an earlier interview.

However

Mieno will however have to wait longer to achieve his dream of playing professional football since the club has confirmed that it cannot sign him due to foreign-player restrictions.

-We have a foreigner restriction so we couldn’t consider him any more, Comitis told futaa.com.

In the South African top-tier, a team is allowed to have only five foreign players in its squad.

Ajax Capetown already has five players in its ranks; custodian Sander Westerveld and midfielder Koen Van de Laak are from Netherlands, Khamat Billiat and Tafadza Rusike, both midfielders, hail from Zimbabwe while second-choice goalkeeper Wanderson Costa Viana is from Brazil.

Interests

Mieno was the runners up Midfielder of the Year during the 2011 Footballer of the year Awards (FOYA).

He was the subject of interest from Tunisian Club Africain last year and TPL side Gor Mahia were also rumoured to be interested in his services earlier this season.

Mieno is a former KCB and Ligi Ndogo player.
