Mathare United coach quits

MYSA

After a difficult 2011 season that saw his team flirt with relegation despite its status in Kenyan football, Mathare United deputy coach Stanley Okumbi has decided to step down albeit for personal reasons.

Experienced

The skilled tactician has also handled Mathare’s under 19 side in last season’s KPL U19 tournament and Nairobi’s Copa Coca Cola team as the head coach. He has been at the position of assistant coach for the last four years and felt it was time to seek fresher challenges.

Personal reasons

-I left Mathare United for personal reasons; there are some matters am pursuing and I needed some time off. Moreover, I have been the assistant at the club for four years and normally you’d expect me to move on or seek a fresh challenge, he told futaa.com.

Okumbi has served under both the current Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi and immediate former Mathare United coach Salim Ali. Notably both his former bosses now work at Sofapaka.
