Ulinzi Stars chances of contesting the 2012 Tusker Premier League was put to question once again when the team fell 0-1 to Mathare United in a game played at the Afraha Stadium on Saturday 29 September 2012.
Low shot
The lone and painful goal came quite early – in the sixth minute when Jesse Were received a ball in the box before rounding off keeper Jacktone Odhiambo with a low shot to bury his eight goal of the season.
Ulinzi had a chance to go level on 13 minutes when Stephen Waruru's hard shot was spilled by Martin Musalia. Big Wycliffe Ochomo was slow off the blocks going for the rebound that was sent packing out of the Mathare backyard by the defense.
On 25 minutes, a hard drive from Ulinzi ricocheted off the corner of the woodwork and the crossbar as Mathare survived conceding an equalizer.
Free kick
Just before the break, a cross from Waruru on the left flunk rolled across the face off goal with no one from his side to attend to it.
The game went to the break at 0-1. A minute to the hour mark, a floated cross went past the Mathare rearguard but keeper Musalia rose above all to send the ball back in play.
Three minutes on it was a free kick that came Mathare’s way from 40 yards after Waruru was fouled - it whiskered just off the far post.
Fifth away win
No further exchanges in the game resulted in a goal for either side as Mathare hang on to the 0-1 score, for their fifth away win from 13 attempts.
With the result, Mathare United have now walked into the top ten to settle at spot nine with 32 points from 26 games. Ulinzi Stars is still fourth with 43 points.
