Man City closer to beaten Man U, as Arsenal net another win

EPL

The race to the English Premier League (EPL) title may not be all over after all – that is if Manchester City win and keep winning as Manchester United (Man U) drop games – just like it happened on Wednesday 11 April 2012 during match day 33.

Man City handed West Bromwich Albion (WBA) a 4-0 pounding in a game played at the Etihad Stadium.

Man U shockingly fell 1-0 to Wigan

A brace from Sergio Aguero, the first after six minutes and another six minutes to the hour mark ushered in two more from Carlos Tevez on 61 minutes and the final one from David Silva three minutes later to hand the team the first league win from four games.

But as Man City picked a win, defending Champions Man U shockingly fell 1-0 to struggling Wigan Athletic for the first time ever in another league tie played at the DW Stadium.

Malaysia born Scottish national Shaun Maloney’s 50th minute strike was enough to see the Champions beaten 1-0, a result that shattered their eight game winning streak in the league.

Bassong was sent off

At Molineux Stadium, visiting Arsenal smacked ten man hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-3.

The EPL’s top scorer Robin Van Persie stretched away atop the scorer’s charts when he sunk in his 27th of the season, and the first in the game via a penalty scored in the ninth minute.

The penalty was awarded after Wolves defender Sébastien Bassong was sent off in the eighth minute for a professional foul on Theo Walcott. Bassong got his matching orders leaving his side a man short way too early.

Man City moves to 74 points

Just two minutes later, Theo Walcott made it 0-2 before Yossi Shai Benayoun sealed the win on 69 minutes.

From the results of the day, Man City moved to 74 points, five points within leaders Manchester United.

Arsenal consolidates third spot in moving to 64 points to open a five point gap over both Tottenham Hotspurs and Newcastle United.

A great favor

Wolves latest loss keeps the side bottom of the 20-team EPL with 22 points,  six behind Blackburn Rovers.

Wigan did themselves a great favor in beating the Champs as they move off the relegation spot to position 16 with 31 points. WBA, from their loss to Man City, remained 14th with 39 points.
