Mambo pats Timbe, Wanyama for European fetes

Ayub Timbe Masika

On Wednesday 29 August 2012, Victor Wanyama, 21 became the first Kenyan ever to score a UEFA Champions league goal when his header helped Scottish side Celtic FC send Helsingborg packing with a 2-0 lead; 4-0 on aggregate.

All claps

The next day, 19 year old Ayub Timbe Masika scored the second goal for Belgian side RC Genk to seal a 2-0 win over Swiss side Luzern in a UEFA Europa League tie to seal a 2-3 aggregate win.

Incidentally both Wanyama and Timbe scored their goals in the 88th minute in second leg playoff rounds in the respective Cup games.

Sitting out in Borlange, Sweden, for Harambee Stars skipper Robert Mambo Mumba is all claps at the rare fete by the two promising youngsters and he spoke to futaa.com on the two

Always happy

-  About Ayub I am so happy. He scored and his achievement is a big plus to Kenyan football,

-Kudos and congrats to Mugabe too for a big show and performance in his game where he scored with a great header

- He is heading to the top and really representing the country and all the players from Kenya.

- We are always happy to hear our players doing great in big leagues, ended Mambo

The only

Prior to the goals by the two, Mambo had been the only Kenyan to have scored in any of the UEFA competitions.

Back on 15 September 2005, his traditional header sent Norwegian top flight side Viking Stavanger to a 1-0 past Austria Wien (Vienna) in a first round qualification UEFA Cup (now UEFA Europa League) tie.

Mambo turns out for Swedish Division One side Dalkurd FF.
