Despite Gor Mahia’s 4-2 win over Muhoroni Youth on Sunday 7 October at City Stadium, Coach Zdravko Logarusic was full of praise for their FKF/President’s cup opponents.
The defending champions edge out the Tusker Premier League debutants via post match penalties after the game ended in a barren draw during the regulation time.
Rama Salim, Moses Odhiambo, Yusuf Juma and Dan Sserunkuma converted for Gor Mahia from the spot while Muhoroni scored through Ibrahim Ateng’ and Gregory Nyapala.
-Cup games are always difficult games and you cannot say that you are favorites, especially when you don’t score goals. But the good thing is that at the end of the day, we achieved what we wanted; to qualify for the semis, said Logarusic to futaa.com.
-Muhoroni is a good side, they gave us hard time; they played good football and they wanted to prove that they can really play against big clubs. We understood them and I am happy we finally won.
Maintain good run
Asked about their forthcoming semi-final match against bitter rivals AFC Leopards, the Croatian born tactician said that it’s too early to start commenting about the derby.
-I think this is our 22nd official game (including league and Top 8 matches) that we have gone without losing and if possible we would like to continue with the fine run.
-We must give respect to all our opponents and it’s too early to start talking about AFC Leopards’ match. First of all, we have to see what happened in our last game; check about injuries and rectify our mistakes. But all in all we are still focused, added Logarusic.
