Ligi Ndogo ends losing streak

Ligi Ndogo

Ngong Road based Ligi Ndogo SC came from behind to see off a ten man Congo JMJ United 1-2 in a Division One Zone A tie played at the Hope Centre on Wednesday 10 October 2012.

Second yellow card

Initially set for an 1100hrs kick off, the game started almost an hour later due to confusion.

And when it kicked off, Congo had the highlight of the first half before visiting Ligi Ndogo took over in the second half.

In the 20th minute of the game, Congo’s Isa Ajiga was slapped with a red card after picking his second yellow card of the game from stumping on Ligi defender Mikel Mwaniki.

Leveled

Even with a man shot, Congo surprised the visitors in going 1-0 up nine minutes to the break. Kenya U20 player Timothy Otieno saw his hard shot parried back into play by Ligi keeper Charles Young Ouma.

Otieno made no mistake with the rebound to net his 15th goal of the season.

Ligi however clawed back into the game after the restart. Four minutes in, former Liberty Professional, Mahakama and KRA player Edwin Mariga Wanjala leveled matters for Ligi.

Brace

From the edge of the box, Wanjala sent a free kick from the edge of the box in at the near post, to the right of a diving Philip Okayo in Congo’s goal.

The game remained tied at 1-1 till the 80th minute but in the next minute, Wanjala completed his brace when he headed home the season off a Salim Abdalla flick.

With the win, the sixth in 16 away games, Ligi’s three game losing streak came to an end.

Despite hitting the half century mark with the win, it was status quo in ranking as Ligi remains seventh. Congo retains spot nine after being handed the sixth home loss of the season.
