Lights go out on Real Madrid

Liga BBVA
Real Madrid will be forced to play their match at Rayo Vallecano tonight, Monday 24 September 2012 after an electricity failure caused the postponement of their clash on Sunday.

Real Madrid’s La Liga match at Rayo Vallecano was postponed after the floodlights failed amid reports of electrical cables being sabotaged.

Rayo’s president Raul Martin Presa indicated he had reason to believe power cables had been cut yesterday.

- Vandals have cut cables and we have tried to solve the problem as quickly as possible but told the stewards not to open the doors of the stadium. We will leave it to the police to find out who is responsible, said Raul Martin Presa.

Evening kick-off

The club confirmed as much in a statement.

- The match has been postponed for sabotage in the electrical system,” the statement read.

There promptly followed a debate on when the match would eventually take place with Real wanting a late afternoon start today but their hosts preferring an evening start.

The match will be played starting 2100 hrs local time.
