Spedag shocked the National Women team after a 1-0 win in an entertaining build up match on Sunday 23 September 2012 at Makande Primary ground, Mombasa.
Rehema Mwacharo
Both teams settled to a 0-0 deadlock at breather but the breakthrough came in the 73rd minute through Spedag’s prolific scorer Rehema Mwacharo.
A delighted Spedag Coach Christine Nanjala said the build up helped her sharpen the team ahead of the two remaining league matches in the 12-team Girls Premier league set for the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October 2012.
Currently placed fifth
-It was a good game. It helped us know our weakness. Our second goalkeeper Sabina Wambugha was outstanding. She has proved she can keep the sheet clean’ said Nanjala.
Spedag are participating in the Girls Premier league where they are currently placed fifth on the log in the 12 team table with 35 points from 20 matches. They wind up the league with ties against MOYAS in Nairobi and Sotik at home.
Residential training
Harambee Starlets Coach Joseph Oyoo, incidentally a part of Spedag’s Technical bench, downplayed the results saying his players played safe to avoid injuries and used the match to select the final squad to travel for the friendly match against Ethiopia on 30 September 2012 in Addis Ababa.
The National team that assembled in the past week on Wednesday for residential training departs for Ethiopia on Wednesday 26 September.
