Kuwinda hunted down at Hope

Intercity

Intercity FC moved closer to wrapping up the District League title after an emphatic 4 – 0 win over Karen based church sponsored side Kuwinda United in a league match played on Friday 10 August at Hope Centre grounds.

Quick brace

The match went into the break on level terms after a tense opening 45 minutes but the pep talk and change of strategy during the break worked well for Intercity as they scored a quick brace on resumption.

Prolific forward Cyrus Muaka opened the floodgates with a 47th minute goal, converting a pinpoint pass from Aden Hassan and before the concession sunk in, Ballack Abdi rubbed more salt to the Kuwinda wounds with a goal two minutes later when he latched on a loose ball spilt by the Kuwinda goalie after a Paul Ohoma shot.

Muaka’s second

A shell shocked Kuwinda tried to claw back into the game but their mission was made almost impossible when Cyrus Muaka helped himself to a second of the game and Intercity’s third with 13 minutes to go after a neat exchange of passes with Joseph Ouma.

His chance of grabbing a second hat trick in as many games was effectively ended when he was withdrawn with ten minutes to go.

Icing on the cake

Simon Wamugi, a defender, then put the icing on the cake on 86 minutes after Charles Ochieng’s corner was half cleared to allow Ohoma a shot on goal which the Kuwinda keeper once again failed to hold onto and Wamugi took a simple finish.

Intercity now has 38 points from 16 matches and could be crowned champions if they win the last match. The team’s major competitor is Kibera GMF who are fourth on 35 points and with a game in hand, they play Green Eagles on Saturday 11 August. Kuwinda, on the other hand, remain rooted at sixth place.
