Rift Valley champions Tartar Girls beat Ibinzo Girls' from Western by a solitary goal to advance to the semi-finals of the ongoing nationals of the Airtel Rising Stars national school games in Mombasa.
The only goal of the day was netted by captain Neddy Atieno, converting an awarded 62nd minute penalty.
Speaking after the match, Tartar’s head Coach Julius Natoka said that they are now eying the finals, which to them is within reach.
-Last year we let it go [to Bishop Njenga] in the last match, but this year we are determined to take it home.
His sentiments were echoed by captain Atieno, who also plays for the Kenya U20 national team, who said that the win was hard-fought, but they were happy that things went their way.
-We intend to lift the trophy and even go ahead to take home the East and Central African title, which is up for grabs as well, Atieno told Futaa.com.
Other match
In the other match of the group, played at the Shimmo la Tewa grounds St John’s Kaloleni handed Chogoria a 5-1 beating, to make the semi-finals.
Chogoria will be playing Ibinzo on Thursday 9 August and St John’s are set to take on Tartar, in their last third matches.
