National winners Kakamega High School kicked off their quest for the 2012
Airtel sponsored Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) national title on a sound note with a 4-1 win over Eastern Champions Kibirichia.

The Group B game played at Shimmo la Tewa from 1500hrs on Tuesday 7 August 2012 saw Western representatives aka Green Commandos take a 1-0 lead at the break before adding two more in the next half to win it 3-1.
Baron Jobita Oketch opened the scores for Kakamega High on 17 minutes but Kibirichia got back into the game with a 50th minute equalizer from Yusuf Hamisi.
Classy equalizer
Hamisi made a run for goal before unleashing a hard drive past Kakamega High’s keeper Benson Man’gala for the classy equalizer.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Green Commandos were 2-1 up after Sammy Mejja stepped up to send home a penalty awarded after Mike Gavoji was brought down by Kibirichia’s keeper.
Gavoji then added a third on 78 minutes off an effort from Kenya U20 striker Timothy Otieno who had come in as a substitute.

Otieno’ sent a high cross that was headed by Gavoji. His first attempt was blocked but he did well to take on the rebound to send score the fourth for his side.
After the Kibirichia’s equalizer, Green Commandos were guilty of missing two clear chances; one by Kepha Otieno who failed to beat Kibirichia keeper on a one on one and another effort from Sammy Mejja that echoed off the upright.
Other than Kibirichia and Kakamega High, Upper Hill and Tetu High make up Group B.
