KPL Top 8 to proceed

.

The KPL Top 8 tournament will continue as planned.

This comes after Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Kenyan Premier League had a consultative meeting to iron out what seemed to be turning out as a mild war in the running of the tourney reserved for the best eight finishers in the league.

Awarded a walkover

On Sunday 29 July 2012, Gor Mahia was awarded a walkover after AFC Leopards failed to show up, holding true their earlier stated position on not turning up for the game.

On Monday 30 July, FKF wrote to KPL, the managers of the Premier League and Top 8 cancelling the walkover awarded to Gor Mahia and calling for the game to be rearranged and played

For the interest of the sponsors

- Arising from a meeting held between FKF and KPL on Tuesday 31 August, where besides replying to the letter to the federation in respect of the Top 8 match between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards SC, that never took off, KPL categorically apologized that they were in the wrong in the manner in which they handled the preparation of this fateful match.

- For the interest of the sponsors and that of football development in the country, FKF has allowed the Top 8 remaining matches to proceed as per the fixtures

Reverse semis

The tournament is now fully back on track after the meeting and Gor Mahia will face off with Tusker in a semifinal on Thursday 2 August 2012, the same day Sony takes on inaugural Top 8 winners Ulinzi Stars.

Both games will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani. The reverse semis will be played in the coming week.
