Former AFC Leopards tactician Jan Koops has expressed his delight after signing a one-year deal with Division One League side Kolongolo FC.
The Dutchman, who penned the deal today [Sunday 3 March] is aiming at making a Tusker Premier League [TPL] return with the Busia-based outfit.
-Of course, I am happy to sign for Kolongolo. I have played against them, while at AFC and I know they have a lot of talent, said Koops to futaa.com.
-It’s a young team and that’s the main reason as to why I accepted the offer; they are ready to listen to the coach and there is a possibility of registering positive results.
-In football, you normally have expectations, but sometimes it doesn’t happen. At AFC, we had intentions of winning the title, but we forgot that our opponents were also fighting for the same trophy.
-It’s a learning lesson and with my new club I am targeting to lead them to topflight league, he added.
Asked whether he will leave the club when approached by a TPL team, the tactician said the contract contains a release clause.
-If any TPL club wants me, we can still negotiate as I have a release clause in my contract that allows me to do so, he revealed.Koops was dismissed by AFC Leopards at the close of the 2012 season after the club failed to win any silverware
