Kenya, Egypt friendly cancelled

The friendly tie between Kenya and Egypt, scheduled for Thursday 23 February 2012 has been cancelled.

According to Football Kenya Federation [FKF] technical Director Patrick Naggi, the decision has been arrived at on security grounds linked to ongoing violence in the Northern Africa country.  

The cancellation comes a week after 74 people were killed and hundreds more injured in a stampede at the Port Said Stadium, following a victory by the home team, Al Masry over Cairo’s top club, Al Ahly.

On the tragic day, violent clashes were witnessed whose ripple effects included more protests against the security forces for failing to intervene on time.
