Kenya’s Harambee Stars and Flames of Malawi are tied 0-0 at half time in their 2014 World Cup qualifier being played at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
Harambee Stars had the first chance on three minutes when a build up from Kevin Kimani ended at Humphrey Mieno but his though pass to Dennis Oliech was cut out for a corner.
Close to another ten minutes
An easy tap in from the skipper could have sent Kenya 1-0 up good defending from Malawi switched that to a corner which was eventually not put to good use.
On ten minutes, Kimani while on the right near the byline cut in a pass that was blocked off for another wasted corner.
From the 11th minute and for close to another ten minutes Malawi settled and looked wel in command of the game. Their comfort forced Harambee stars Coach Francis Kimanzi off his bench to hand instruction at the touchline.
Whiskered above
A conspicuous Kimani went for a header on 24minutes but he mistimed it sending it wide when he should have done better.
Two minutes later Malawi cuased the jitters in Harambee Strars rearguard when Kamwendo got his head to a 30 yard free kick. His effort whiskered above Boniface Oluoch’s cross bar as Kenya survived.
On 31 minutes Malawi defender Moses Tavula yellow carded for a rough challenge on Oboya who had switched to the right wing. The resulted kicked amounts to nothing.
Got to the middle of the box
On 35 minutes, Mieno had a long range shot at goal, but it was flimsy carrying no danger to the Malawi keeper.
Just a minute later, Kenyan keeper Oluoch was forced to pull off two fine saves in a space of seconds. First he cuts out a challenge from the right and when the ball got to the middle of the box, he picked up a dangerous high shot to keep Kenya in the game.
Oliech left footer flew across the face of goal.
On 42 minutes, Malawi was forced to do a substitution bringing in John Banda for Robin Ngalade
Action in the half ended with Oliech missing out on a glorious chance to send Kenya 1-0 up. On the left of the box, he released the ball to Kimani who returned it to him but his left footer flew across the face of goal.
With Malawi keeper not really tested, the game rolled on to the close of the first half.
Action in the first of six 2014 World Cup qualifier will be complete after the next 45 minutes.
