Thika United head coach John Kamau has stabilised the team after a shaky two outings and is thrilled at the number of chances that his team creates in their matches in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).
Nine goals
The team endured difficult games against Sofapaka and AFC Leopards, conceding nine in the process before recovering to beat KCB and Karuturi Sport most recently and the coach says with the chances his team creates, the team doesn’t deserve to be fourth on the standings.
Speaking to futaa.com, Kamau pointed at the slim win over Karuturi Sport on Sunday 26 August as a game where many chances were created but not well utilised and the defeat to Sofapaka which he affirms that his team created about six clear cut chances.
Top of the table
-I am convinced that in this league we are one of the teams which create the most chances in games; if we utilised all the chances we have created since the start right now we’d be top of the standings.
-In the last game, for example, Karuturi were just lucky because we created very many goal scoring opportunities; in the Sofapaka defeat, we should have won 6 – 4 going by the chances we created. I am happy at the opportunities we create and hopefully we will start killing off teams at the slightest chance, he said.
Nine different scorers
Thika United is also one of the teams with the best distribution of goal scorers, nine precisely, a factor that fills Kamau with joy.
-Our goal scorers’ diversity is also good; we are the second best scoring side in the league and we have nine different players on our scorers list. That shows we are a capable side, anyone can score – and it says a lot about our philosophy, he added.
Thika United has scored 29 goals, on a tie with Ulinzi Stars, and just second to league leaders AFC Leopards who have scored 32.
