Inter stumble, coach issues apology

Andrea Stramaccioni
Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan continued their stuttering start to the season after being held top a 2-2 home draw by Russian side Rubin Kazan in the opening round of the UEFA Europa league on Thursday 20 September 2012.

The Russians were ahead twice during the match, with Inter forced to come from behind and were booed off the San Siro by their disgruntled fans.

Alexander Ryazantsev gave the visitors the lead on 17 minutes. Marko Livaja however equalized on 39 minutes to give the the home side the initiative, but despite having the initiative, they were pegged back by Salomon Rondon's goal on 84 minutes, but Japanese defender Yuto Nagatomo salvaged a point for Inter in added time.

Sorry

Afterwards Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni apologized to the club's fans.

- Personally I'm sorry not to give the joy of victory, Stramaccioni told reporters from Sky Sport Italia.

-
Obviously it bothers us not to win at home. It seems like simplistic analysis, but we were punished by two episodes, he said.

- Every game has its own story. We have always gone behind early in games played at home this season, but I do not think our approach was wrong as we created several chances before they scored.

Away match

Stramaccioni's side will travel to Neftchi Baku in the next round of Europa League games on Thursday 4 October 2012.
