Imonje: Mathare were lucky

Alfred Imonje

The 2008 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Mathare United managed to sneak out of Muhoroni Stadium with a point after a hard fought encounter with the hosts Muhoroni Youth on Sunday 19 August, a result Muhoroni coach Alfred Imonje believes was due to the visitors’ luck.

Important point

Imonje, who termed the point his team earned a very important one, said his team missed a number of chances that could have killed off the Nairobi side but lauded his charges for a great displays that ‘troubled Mathare’.

-It was a tough match against a very good team; Mathare were very lucky to escape with the point and their luck was partly because of our missed chances. Had we utilised all the chances we created, things could have been different.

Great show

-However, I will embrace the result – the one point won is a very important one because it moves us out of the relegation zone for now and I want to thank my boys for a great show of character. They gave a good account of themselves and really troubled Mathare all afternoon, he told futaa.com.
