The South Africa coach Gordon Igesund is preparing his team Bafana Bafana for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be hosted by South Africa in 2013 and he believes his team has all it takes to emerge winners.
Expect shocks
Igesund’s team, currently in Nairobi to take on Kenya’s Harambee Stars, is a one - time African champion after the 1996 win the coach believes the gap between the so called big teams and smaller ones has closed up so shocks should be expected at the continental showpiece.
Speaking after the Bafana Bafana training session on Monday 15 October at the Nyayo National Stadium, Igesund rued the AFCON miss by Senegal and Cameroon and predicted a tough outing for the big boys at the tournament.
All set
-The gap between the smaller teams and so called big teams has closed up. AFCON is going to be a tough competition but South Africa is all set and I am confident we will win it.
-I am not surprised that a big team like Senegal was knocked out - they had a tough opponent in Ivory Coast. We would have loved to have Cameroon but it is a big blow both will not be there - we will miss them both.
-My take at AFCON is that all big teams will struggle, he said.
