Many could have thought his knee surgery was the end of his blossom career, but the former Tusker FC custodian Antony Marisia is now back in the topflight football after a stint in the neighbouring Uganda.
Most footballers, who have undergone surgery have hang up their boots but for him he’s still going strong and versatile with his reflex action ever magnificent and indeed his surgery was a blessing in disguise.
Stars call-up
An experienced Marisia has found solace to the newly promoted Kenyan Premier League side Oserian FC, signing up a one year contract, with his main aim being to propel the flower-men to an impressive position this season.
-It’s been a long journey for me and now I have to live to the billing and rediscover my best form that will see Oserian reclaim the title, Marisia told futaa.com.
-This is a great opportunity for me and I won’t waste it. I must play for the senior national team before I call it a day, vowed the tactician.
accolades
The 28 year-old keeper was scouted by defuncant Utalii FC in 2001 from Kakamega High School before moving to Mumias Sugar FC in 2003.
Before then, Marisia had spurred the Kenya U20 to silverware clinching the CECAFA junior championship in 1999 as he also featured for the U23 team.
He’s a phenom in the millers’ squad till its disbandment in June 2007 attracting the interest of Tusker FC, who also signed Ibrahim Shikanda, George Wesa and Hassan Aden.
Under the tutelage of Jacob Ghost Mulee, though he won the CECAFA Club Championships, Marisia suffered a knee injury forcing him to undergo a major surgery that nearly ruined his career as he’s sidelined for eight months.
knee surgery
Luckily, the custodian’s fantastic display at the regional extravaganza was noticed by Uganda’s Express SC scouts, who went ahead to offer him a two year deal.
-I can say it’s a tight rope; undergoing knee surgery that nearly wrecked my career as I was sidelined for eight months but thank God I had already impressed scouts from Express, who gave me an offer. Immediately I regained my fitness I crossed the borders over to Uganda, acknowledged the custodian.
After expiry of his contract, Marisia had to make a comeback to the local scene by joining SoNy Sugar FC on a half year deal in the mid transfer window last season.
