Ahmed Gedo scored a 28th minute goal to give Al Ahly a 1-0 lead at the break in the 2nd leg of the semi final of the CAF Champions League in Cairo, and hand the North Africans a 4-3 aggregate lead.
Sunshine stars and Al Ahly game kick off in Cairo with no fans in attendance, as ordered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The first 15 minutes saw Al Ahly doing most of the playing, with Ayodele Henry in goal for Sunshine the busier of the two goal keepers.
Ibrahim Ajani and Izu Azuka combining well for Sunshine the few times they break forward, but Ajani strayed offside a couple of times.
On 19 minutes, Hossam Ghaly put Hamdi El Sayed through after a free kick fell to him, but the striker lofted his shot high with only Henry to beat.
Henry was again the hero on 20 minutes when Ahmed Gedo ghosted through the Sunshine defence, but watched his placed shot smothered by the Sunshine Stars goal tender.
Ahmed Gedo finally gave the North Africans the break they were looking for when he was sent through by Hossam Ghaly and he saw his angled shot deflected past Henry to give Ahly the lead.
Still, Al Ahly keep getting their set pieces right, knocking down free kicks for their lurking attackers with Sunshine defenders floundering, as they created another goal scoring chance on 40 minutes. Mercifully, Ahmed Barakat shot wide.
