Kakamega High trounced their bitter rivals Mukumu Boys 1-0 in the Saturday’s (July 14) mouth-watering final of the Regional Secondary School Games, at Kakamega High School Grounds.
It was a sweet revenge for the Green Commandos who lost by the same margin to Mukumu in last year’s semi-finals.
Kenya U20 national team striker Michael Gavoji scored the lone goal of the match thanks to Timothy Otieno’s cross in the 27th minute to take his tally to five in the tournament.
On their way to the final, the former national champions edged out Chebuyusi High1-0 in the semis courtesy of Jacob Onyango Midega's goal as Mukumu drubbed Mugai High 2-1 in the second semi played today in the morning.
Restore the lost glory
Speaking to futaa.com after the victory, Kakamega coach Hezbon Nyabinge promised not to disappoint their die-hard fans.
-This time round we will not take chances for granted.
-We are focused and we will not disappoint our fans. We will take each game at a time without underrating our opponents, said the former Nzoia Sugar and Western Stima forward.
Following the win, the Green Commandos will represent the larger Kakamega District in the provincial finals to be held at the same venue on 19-22 July.
