Gor Mahia’s take on shift in semi dates

George Bwana

The recent shift in dates set aside for the President’s Cup has elicited a number of reactions from concerned parties across the football divide. Gor Mahia, one of the semi finalists in the competition shared their sentiments with futaa.com.

No issue

According to the club’s secretary general Mr. George Bwana, the club has no issue with the shift in dates for the semi final in which they are scheduled to face off with AFC Leopards on Saturday 20 October.

However, speaking to futaa.com, he said he hopes none of the teams in the title chase will be taking part in league matches as that will pass as unfair to Gor Mahia who hold much prestige for the league but will be taking part in the Cup competition.

Shift matches

-As Gor we have no issue at all with the change in dates though we have not yet been informed officially about any changes. But all the same, we hope league matches scheduled for that weekend will also be shifted.

-If not, it is our wish that the top four teams be exempted from league action on the dates because it will be unfair on us that we play a Cup game as our competitors gain points in the league.

- The league is more critical than the Cup. If it will be difficult to shift the league games, then we suggest that the Cup games be played after the regular league season, he said.

The change in dates was effected after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) noted that the earlier designated dates were set aside for the FIFA International week.
