Gor Leapfrogs ingwe with Rangers win

Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia snatched back the second slot on the Tusker Premier League standings after a hard fought 2-1 win over a resilient Rangers FC at the Nyayo Stadium in a Wednesday 3 October 2012 floodlit affair.

K’ogalo managed to wrestle away the win despite Rangers staging a show of resilience for the better part of the match and scaring them to

action in the second half.

Won't let go

The visitors threatened first through a Moses Odhiambo shot in the fifth minute but Rangers’ keeper Victor Omondi was on standby to clear

the danger.

Rangers did not give them a chance to attack either as they foiled their every attack with keeper Victor Omondi being attentive on Rangers goal and his defenders taking their positions infront of goal.

Gor Mahia were forced to wait till the 31st minute to break the deadlock through an Ali Abondo low kick that slid through the bottom left of the Rangers' net from a corner kick.

The second half registered even more thrilling action as Rangers appeared determined to get a better result against their visitors. It only took a minute for former Gor Mahia captain Julius Awilo Owino to curl in an equalizer from the edge of the area.

Rama's winner

It was not done for the day as Gor Mahia used their tactical strength to overwhelm the determined Rangers FC with former Congo United striker Rama Salim beating the offside trap and loop over Victor Omondi for the winner in the 52nd minute.

K'ogalo then sealed their defense with Rangers FC strikers lead by Erick Muranda hitting a dead end whenever they came knocking. The hosts came close on many occasions but their efforts were not good enough to get an equalizer.

Rangers maintain their bottom slot on the standings with 20 points after the loss which leaves them staring at relegation with only four matches to go this season.
