Gor Mahia narrowly escaped with a 4-2 win on penalties over FK Cup quarterfinal opponents Muhoroni Youth in their Sunday afternoon encounter at the City Stadium .

The hosts failed to leap any goals within the first 90 minutes despite their countless raids in the Muhoroni goal towards the end of the match as the visitors maintained a water-tight defence.

The match started at a slow pace with possession being shared on a 50-50 basis but slowly gained in momentum as the halftime mark approached.

Gor Mahia however threatened first with Teddy Akumu's goal flying over the bar after being set up by Rama Salim in the 16th minute. K'ogalo added their raids as the halftime mark approached with Kevin Omondi also blasting his shot onto the crossbar moments later.

Gor Mahia made their first substitution into the second half bringing in Yusuf Juma for Christopher Wekesa in an attempt to break the Muhoroni defence but this also turned fruitless despite the constant raids by Rama Salim, Moses Odhiambo and Dan Sserunkuma.

An injury on Ali Abondo forced Gor to bring in Edwin Lavatsa who also parried his shot over the bar in the 52nd minute. Sserunkuma was also denied by Muhoroni's Ateng' with his shot on target being deflected for a corner two minutes later.

George Midenyo was brought into play for Kevin Omondi but his header was denied by the woodwork as tension now mounted for either team to score but no goal was forthcoming leading the match into penalties.

In penalties, Rama Salim, Moses Odhiambo, Yusuf Juma,  and Dan Sserunkuma converted for Gor Mahia while Muhoroni netted theirs through Ibrahim Ateng’ and Gregory Nyapala. David Oriki and George Midenyo missed for Muhoroni and Gor Mahia respectively.
