Just like the battle for the top spot in the Division One League [Both Eastern and Western Zones] which is increasing momentum, the race for the golden-boot is also becoming ever more cut-throat.
With the second leg of the 2012 season underway, in the Eastern Zone, Admiral FC hit-man Blaty Roosevelt has so far notched 17 goals, two more than second placed Michael Khamati of Administration Police FC.
Congo JMJ United’s Timothy Otieno is a distance third with 11 goals.
Neck to neck
Former AFC Leopards SC and Harambee Stars forward Sebastian Muchera is currently in a scintillating form at Nakuru AllStars FCand is the man at the helm of the Western Zone goal scoring charts having racked-up 14 goals, one more than the duo of West Kenya Sugar's Stephen Wakhanya and Valen Semi Mahero of Nzoia United FC.
Finlays Horticulture’s Benlee Juma, formerly with Kenyan Premier League side Karuturi Sport, and Oliver Omondi of Soin Flourspar are tied at third each with 12 goals.
With more than sixteen matches remaining for each team before the close of the season, more fireworks is expected as the race in both leagues is still open.
Record breaker
However, Roosevelt, a Liberian National is the man to beat as his scoring is brilliant and only two goals shy of surpassing the tally set by the Golden boot winner in 2011.
Last season, KRA’s talisman Obadiah Ndege (now at Tusker FC) scored 19 goals to clinch the most prestigious individual award, one goal ahead of Magongo Rangers’ striker Kassim Mohammed (now at Chemelil Sugar FC).
