Gambia U20 pulls out from AYC campaign

Morocco U20

Gambia U20 National team the Junior Scorpions will not feature in the second leg second, round of the Africa Youth Championship which commences this weekend.

According to the Gambia Football Association (GFA), the team which has not been training due to non-payment of their Morocco match allowances will not play their return match against Morocco.

Financial constraint

-Yes it is true that we have withdrawn the boys because the GFA is facing a serious financial struggle. In fact, even the technical staff is in arrears and also sponsors are not coming forward to support. The vice chairman of GFA Alhaji Omar Sey told the Official website.

Automatic qualification

The Junior Scorpions would have been forced to win the return leg by 5-0 to proceed to the next level after they were beaten 4-0 in Morocco.

The called-off was slated for 12 August at Box Bar Mini-Stadium in Brikama however, the withdrawal earns Morocco an automatic qualification to the next round of the campaign.
