FKF nullifies fine slapped on Leopards

AFC Leopards will not pay the heavy fine imposed on them by the Kenyan Premier League for failing to honor a KPL Top 8 tie against Gor Mahia on Sunday 29 July 2012.

Refusal to honour KPL matches

In the buildup to the Sunday game, Leopards gave a list of reasons as to why they would not honor that tie, and sure enough failed to do so to hand rivals Gor Mahia a walkover.

-Under the KPL Policy on failure or refusal to honor KPL matches a club which fails to honour a match for a first offence risks being fined  Ksh.500,000 and loses the match, said an earlier KPL statement

AFC Leopards were to face a further fine of an approximately Kshs3.5 Million, direct costs incurred by broadcasters Super Sport International in arranging for the game.

Result of the disputed match is upheld

However, Leopards can now breathe easy as they will pay no fine to KPL – as ordered by FKF

-FKF has nullified any fines imposed on AFC Leopards for not honoring the match in question. The result of the disputed match is upheld, said a statement from Kenya’s football governing body

The Top 8 will proceed on Thursday 2 August 2012 with two semifinal ties; Gor Mahia Vs Tusker, Sony Sugar Vs Ulinzi Stars
