FKF Cup: Gor short circuit Stima to sail through

Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia beat Western Stima 5-4 on penalties to advance to the next round of the FKF President’s Cup after a 1-1 draw in the regulation time, on Saturday 1 September, at City Stadium.

The reigning KPL Top 8 Cup champions took an early lead in the 8th minute through a perfect free-kick from Moses Otieno that gave Ben Mandela no chance in the Stima goal.

Tough tie

However, Ali Bai restored parity in the 27th minute heading home Jackson Saleh’s well curved free-kick after Musa Mohammed fouled Alloyce Mangi on the left channel.

On resumption, both tacticians made numerous substitutes but none of them managed to add the second goal. They pushed for a winner in extra time but couldn’t find the back of the net.

With the score tied at 1-1, at the end of the regulation time, the winner was decided on penalties.

Penalties

Tanzanian international keeper Ivo Mapunda was the hero of the day after he saved David Otieno's shot before Dan Sserenkuma scored the decisive kick to send K'ogalo through to the next round.

Gor's other penalties were scored by Ivan Anguyo, Moses Odhiambo, Kevin Omondi and Donald Mosoti while Fredrick Shimonyo, Mark Sirengo, Job Omusse and Mangi netted for Stima.

Gor will now meet the winner between Muhoroni Youth and Kakamega Homeboyz.
