On Tuesday 2 October 2012, Manchester United trailed host CFR Cluj 1-0 in a second round Group ‘H’ UEFA Champions League tie before Robin Van Persie turned the game around for to win 1-2.
Partnership
The turn around pleased Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, especially so the partnership of strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie.
-The strength of the squad is in the attacking positions,
he told ITV.
-The pass and the finish (for the second goal), both were equally as good. It's
a fantastic finish but what a nice ball Wayne
has dropped - I thought it was too far, but Robin has done well to get to it.
With their performance on the day, Ferguson is still not certain that Rooney –
Van Persie are turning out to be a partnership; but he sure hopes it will soon
turn out to be one.
Brace from Robin Van Persie
-It's difficult to say (if this is a partnership), he said.
-I hope so. I think there's combinations between a few of our players.
Off a Pantelis Kapetanos goal, Cluj went up 1-0 on 14 minutes in the 2145hrs
local time kick off but a brace from Robin Van Persie on 29th and 49th
minutes gave Manchester United a second straight win in Group ‘H’.
