Eto’o turns down Cameroon call

Samuel Eto'o

Samuel Eto’o has turned down a recall to Cameroons National team the Indomitable Lions.

He had been named to the team for an 8 September 2012 AFCON second round qualifier against Cape Verde Islands.

Amateurism and poor organization

To have been called up, Eto’o had completed a lengthy ban slapped on him by Cameroon’s Soccer body CFF after he led Cameroon players to boycott a friendly against Algeria that was set for 15 November 2011 for not having been paid allowances for winning an LG Cup earlier

Eto’o now turning out for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala gives reason for not honoring the call

-Our national team continues to dwell in an environment characterized by amateurism and poor organization not compatible with professional sports.

Leonard Kweuke

-I doubt if supporters of the Indomitable Lions will understand my move aimed at attracting attention to the imperative necessity to make the team professional. The team is a veritable institution that has contributed much to the nation and from which much is still expected, he said in his personal site

With Eto’o not showing up, Cameroon’s Coach Dennis Lavagne has called up Leonard Kweuke of Sparta Prague.
