Ekhalie’s Mariehamn smacked

IFK Mariehamn’s chase for Finland’s top league crown suffered a major jolt when the side was handed a 5-1 beating away to HJK Helsinki on Sunday 26 August 2012.

In the game that saw Kenyan midfielder Amos Chona Ekhalie, 24, pick up his 22nd league games, host HJK had to come from a goal down to see off Mariehamn to boost their own chances of winning the 2012 Veikkausliiga.

Mariehamn opened the scores just the second minute with a goal from Aleksei Kangaskolkka. That goal was cancelled out by 24-year old Gambian striker Demba Savage as the game ended even after the first half.

Lone goal

Two minutes into the second half HJK went 2-1 up when Kosovo born midfielder Erfan Zeneli . Berat Sadik then made it 3-1 on 54 minutes before Juho Makela made it 4-1 five minutes after the hour mark.

Mariehamn course in the game all but ended when their lone goal scorer Aleksei picked up a second yellow on 76 minutes to be ejected from the game. For safety measure, Savage completed his brace on 88 minutes to end the scoring at 5-1.

Inter Turku

With the win, HJK improves to 40 points to sit third in the 12-team log. Mariehamn is fourth with 37 points. Both have played 23 games.

Top of the pile is Inter Turku with 44 points.
