Echesa making his return to the squad after recovering from injury delivered a neat corner kick in the 24th minute that was bundled in by Azam FC Aggrey Moris for an own goal.
That lead lasted the entire game to take Simba SC to a max 27 points from nine games. Game winner Echesa played on opposite ends with Kenyan right back Ibrahim Shikanda.
Defending Champions Young Africans (Yanga) also emerged as winners in their game yesterday beating Moro United 1-0 in the last game of the ninth round at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar. Yanga’s lone goal was scored by Nurdin Bakari in the 32nd minute.
Last years top scorer Boniface Ambani with 18 goals in the season missed several chances that could have taken the game to a comfortable win.
The win over Moro was the first game for new coach Costadin “Bill Clinton” Papic who took over the reigns of departing Dusan Kondic. Kenyan defender George Owino, Boniface Ambani and Mike Baraza featured in the win over Moro United.
Yanga’s win moved the team to second with 18 points which is nine short of Simba’s tally of 27.
Both Simba and Yanga, considered arch rivals over the years will match up in the coming weekend in a game that brings everything, literally, to a near stand still in Dar Es Salaam.
