Ali Mwinyi scored for Ruvu with Jabir Aziz replying for Azam.
The match was played at the Chamazi Stadium in Mbagala where Kenyan defender Ibrahim Shikanda took part.
Azam now have 18 points, and are in second place in the standings, just a point behind Simba, though they have played a game less than their opponents.
