The official date of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations draw is on the 29th of October 2011. According to www.goal.com, the event is scheduled to take place 20 days after the final round of matches of the qualifying series and will be presided over by Caf general secretary, Hicham El Amrani, in Equatorial Guinea capital Malabo.
This will mark the beginning of another process for the qualified teams as they prepare to go for each other’s throats at the continental event that will be co-hosted by both Equaitorial Guinea and Gabon come next year.
Period
The tournament which takes place after every two years will kick off on January 21and will run till February 12, 2012. The 16 teams that will qualify for the evnt will be divided into four groups of four teams each.
The first two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals after the group knock out stage games. The winners of the quarter finals will then move on to the semifinals then the finals. So far only two teams have qualified Botswana and Ivory Coast plus though they still have pending games. The hosts have an automatic qualification though.
Kenya are on the blink of losing out after going down against Angola in the return leg and consequently sliding to third in group J behind Uganda and the Angolans.
