The Kenya U20 national team will have to play against their Egyptian counterparts in the first leg second round African Youth Championships qualifier without their coach Stanley Okumbi who also doubles as the Mathare United coach.
Didn’t travel
Okumbi was forced to stay in the country after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) failed to convince the KPL to shift his club’s match on Saturday 28 July against Western Stima and promised to book him a flight after the game.
However, Okumbi, speaking to futaa.com, said he had been informed by the federation after the Western Stima game that all flights to Cairo had been booked for the night.
Fully booked
-On Wednesday I had been assured that a flight will be booked after the Western Stima match so that I depart at 0200hrs for Cairo but today I was informed that all flights are booked. I will therefore not be with the team in Egypt.
-My deputy, George Ondula will take charge of the team in the game. I am hopeful that they will manage a good result there, he said.
The match will be played on Sunday 29 July.
