Spain national team head coach Vicente del Bosque has named a 26-man provisional squad that will take on Nigeria in group B of the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil next month.
In a list made available on football-espana.net, Spain’s selection has listed few surprises with 20 players from last summer’s European Championships included but with Fernando Llorente, Alvaro Negredo and Juanfran Torres dropping out.
The squad will be trimmed down to the required 23 before the team set out for Brazil for this summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup tournament next month.
The world and European champions have two friendlies in the United States before heading to Brazil, against Haiti in Miami on June 8 and against Ireland in New York three days later.
The La Roja’s have been drawn in Group B with Uruguay, Tahiti and Nigeria and they will open the tournament in Recife against the 2011 Copa America winners on Saturday 16 June 2013.
Manchester City Javi Garcia and Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez return after a recent absence from the team to make up the numbers for the midfield battle and are being joined by Real Betis’ Benat in the provisional 13-man midfield selection.
