Come from behind City Stars draws Mathare

Nairobi City Stars came from behind to hold Mathare United 1-1 in a Tusker Premier League 1-1 in a game played at the Hope Centre on Saturday 15 September 2012 from 1500hrs.

The two teams went to the break locked at 0-0 but the tides changed two minutes after the hour mark.

Mathare United winger Joseph Waithera Mwangi, who substituted Vincent Okello, worked his way on the right wing to land in the box before placing a low shot to beat City Stars keeper at the near post.

The goal came two minutes after Francis Thairu had missed a glorious chance to put the home team 1-0 up. With a great header, Thairu went for goal but his pin pointer was saved by Martin Musalia.

Mathare’s lead did not last long as the team conceded seven minutes after their lead.

Bruno Sserunkuma got to the end of a pass from Thairu on 69 minutes to send his team level.

The game remained at 1-1 to the very end as both teams shared the spoils.

Improved

With a point, Mathare has improved to 28 points to move a position higher, from 12 to 11 to go above KCB after 24 rounds of play.

City stars remains 14th but improved from 23 to 24 points.
