A major row is brewing over the importation of referees during this weekend’s division one matches involving Bidco United.
According to the referee’s appointment signed by FKF Secretary General Omondi Aduda and Chairman of Technical Committee Elly Mukolwe, centre referees assigned to officiate Bidco’s matches against Bandari and Sparki Youth on Saturday 6 October and Sunday 7 October respectively come from Nairobi, a complete departure from the protocol.
- We have enough competent and credible referees in Coast and there is no justification whatsoever to import referees, said Ashraf Ali, a top Coast Referee.
Nairobi based Thomas Onyango will be the centre referee during Saturday’s match between Bandari and Bidco at KPA Mbaraki while Isaac Ochieng will be the centre referee during Sundays match between Sparki Youth and Bidco at the same venue.
Unlike the Tusker Premier League, Division one league is officiated by referees from the respective region that hosts the match.
With the Division One league entering its home stretch, coast soccer analysts suggest that there is more than meets the eye in the appointment.
