Change in name for Div One side

KYOC
Second tier side Kisumu Youth Olympic Centre have rebranded and will now be known as Field Negreos, head coach Ambrose Otumba has said.

The Kisumu-based side changed the name at the beginning of the second leg of the FKF Division One Zone B Group 2.

Field Negroes

-We will now be known as the Field Negroes, meaning The Blacks in the old American slang. We decided to change the name because we have detached ourselves for our umbrella group; Kisumu Youth Olympic Centre, he told futaa.com.

When asked whether the change in name was behind their recent change in form where they have registered two successive wins in their opening two matches of the second leg, Otumba joked that names have powers but added that the team had been preparing well for the second leg during the midseason break.

-Well, names have powers but we have been training hard and are now on the runway. Nothing will stop us for now, he said after leading his side to a 2-1 win over Longonot Horticulture on Saturday.

Negroes sit eighth on the 12-team log with 16 points from 13 matches, 15 adrift of leaders Oserian FC who they face next weekend.
