Champions League: Milan, Real Madrid get away wins

On Wednesday 3 October Real Madrid, Malaga and AC Milan picked up away round two wins in the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League.

Own goal

Host Zenit Saint Petersburg and AC Milan kicked off a Group ‘C’ tie at 1900hrs out at the Petrovskiy Stadium from which visiting Italian Serie A side AC Milan picked a 2-3 away win.

Urby Emanuelson and Stephen El Shaarawy got the visitors to a 0-2 lead with goals in the 13th and 16th minutes respectively before the hosts rallied to tie the game with new signing Hulk’s goal on 45 minutes and another from Roman Shirokov on 49 minutes.

Milan however had the last laugh to win it 2-3 after an own goal from Tomas Hubocan on 75 minutes.

Made a meal

In another Group ‘C tie played from 2145hrs, host Anderlecht of Belgium found the going tough in falling 0-3 to visiting Spanish side Malaga.

Eliseu scored a brace for Malaga in the 45th and 64th minutes, goals that came on either side of Joaquin’s 56th minute penalty.

In Group ‘D’, Real Madrid made a meal of host Ajax, winning a 2145hrs kick off 1-4, a game played at the Amsterdam Arena.

Hat trick 

Cristiano Ronaldo got a hat trick, his goals coming on 49, 79 and 81 minutes. Karim Benzema scored the other goal for Real on 48 minutes with the hosts getting a consolation on 56 minutes through Niklas Moisander

In another Group ‘D’ tie, Manchester City trailed Dortmund for close to half an hour at the Etihad Stadium to finally settle for a 1-1 draw.

Maximum six points

Marco Reus scored for Dortmund on 61 minutes but Mario Baloteli’s equalizer off a penalty a minute to time ensure shared spoils.

From the Wednesday results, Real Madrid is top of Group ‘D’ with a maximum six points with Dortmund coming in second two points less.

In Group ‘C’, Malaga is also top with a maximum six from two rounds with Milan second with four points.
