The Confederation
of African Football (CAF) has released a list of 34 players to be considered for the
2012 African Footballer of the Award. In the list there is no player from the
East Africa region.
Yaya Toure
Three
players who ply their trade for clubs on the continent; Zambia’s Rainford
Kalaba and Stopila Sunzu of TP
Mazembe and Tunisia's Youssef Msakni of Esperance made the shortlist as well as
last year’s winner Yaya Toure of English Premier League champions Manchester
City FC.
CAF will
release a shortlist of ten finalists to be sent to national
associations, head coaches and secretary generals to select the top three
finalists which will be announced later in October.
The winner will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 20
December 2012 in the Banquet Hall, State House in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
