CAF Champions Lg; Nigerian pair through, APR miss out

CAF Champions League

At the close of the second leg preliminary ties played on Sunday 3 March 2013 in various venues across the continent, aggregate results reveals that Rwanda’s APR are no longer part of the competition while Nigeria pair of Enugu Rangers and Kano Pillars are through to the first round.

Having lost a first leg home game 2-1 to Burundi’s Vital ‘O, Rwanda’s APR needed to score two unanswered goals in the reverse tie played on Sunday at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura.

5-1 on aggregate

But APR managed just a goal, through Barnabe Mubumbyi in the 75th minute that was not enough as APR bowed out on the away goals rule despite tying the aggregate at 2-2.

Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers went through to the first round without kicking a ball as their opponents, Sporting Clube do Príncipe from Sao Tome and Principe failed to show up.

Mbabane Swallows

Another Nigerian side Kano Pillars, went past Central African Republic’s Olympic Real 5-1 on aggregate. The two teams tied 0-0 on Sunday in Bangui, a game played at the Barthelemy Boganda Stadium.

Other teams that went through include Zambia’s Zanaco with a 3-2 aggregate win over Swaziland’s Mbabane Swallows count. The Swallow only managed a 0-0 draw at their backyard in a Sunday reverse tie and failed to make their two away goals count.

Enugu Rangers

Reigning CAF Confederations Cup Champions AC Leopard of Congo are also through with a 2-1 aggregae win over Gabon’s CF Mounana. The latter won the second leg tie 1-0 on Sunday, a score not good enough to deny entry to the first leg where they will face off with Kano Pillars.

Vital O’s opponent in the first round is Enugu Rangers.
