Beaten ref; I did not celebrate Admiral’s goal

Mohammed Kheri

Martin Wekesa, the center referee who officiated an abandoned Division One Coast derby between Admiral and Sparki Youth on Saturday 22 September 2012 has denied ever celebrating the lone goal in the game scored by Admiral.

Leaked

Wekesa was responding to accusations by former Harambee Stars Coach Mohammed Kheri, the Sparki Youth Technical Director in a confidential match report submitted to Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee.

According to the leaked report Wekesa states;

-Mohammed Kheri , former Harambee Stars coach insulted me ‘You were running as if celebrating the goal of Admiral

Suspended

Wekesa said these sentiments were made by Kheri as he (referee) was being beaten up by a mob of Sparki Youth fans.

Mohammed Kheri who was suspended yesterday for a period of one year for incitement has since pleaded innocence over the matter.

Docked six points

The match was abandoned two minutes to the end of regulation time with Admiral leading 1-0, after a group of individuals stormed the pitch and assaulted Wekesa as he was about to flash a red-card to a Sparki player.

Action has since been handed by FKF to Sparki for the Saturday incidents with assistant Coach Daudi Kajembe handed a life ban, Mohammed Kheri as well as two players given a year’s ban each and the team docked six points.
