Kenya’s Harambee Stars was beaten 1-2 by visiting Bafana Bafan of South Africa in an international friendly played at the Nyayo National Stadium on Tuesday 16 October 2012 from 1900hrs.
Defense splitting
South Africa carried a 0-1 lead to the break, lost the lead in the 72nd minute then regained it three minutes later to eventually seal the win.
On 17 minutes, Tekelo Rantie got to the end of a defense splitting pass to beat the offside trap and get the ball to the near post way beyond the reach of keeper Arnold Origi.
Debutant Wesley Kemboi of Western Stima bullied Bafana skipper Bogani Khumalo with a header in the box. He handled to hand Kenya a penalty that was sent home by skipper Dennis Oliech on 72 minutes.
Own goal
Just three minutes on, Nyayo Stadium fell silent.
A ball from midfield got to the box and off the near post, Bernard Parker lifted the ball up. Chris Wekesa, in an attempt to provide cover inadvertently headed the ball home to gift Bafana Bafana an own goal that turned out to be the winning goal.
The friendly was the first for the two sides in Kenya, but fourth overall.
