Azam’s title hopes revived as TFF drops a referee

Azam FC

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has excluded referee Rashid Msangi from the list of Premier League referees for mishandling Monday’s match between Azam United and Mtibwa Sugar, at Chamazi Stadium.

The match ended prematurely with the scoreboard reading 1-1 draw after Mtibwa players walked-off the pitch protesting the referee's decision to award their opponents a penalty in the 88th minute.

Beneficiaries

TFF awarded Azam three points and three goals at the expense of Mtibwa who will have to pay TSh500, 000 for abandoning the match.

Apart from Msangi, match commissioners Abdallah Mitole, William Chibura and Omari Mawela have also been excluded from the list of Premier League officials for failing to attend the pre-match meetings of the games they handled last weekend.

Following the decision, Azam remain second in the League table with 53 points, six adrift of league leaders Simba.
