Awono is the new Gor Mahia head coach

Anaba Awono has been appointed Gor Mahia head coach.

The Cameroonian, who has served at various positions at the club, including as the club's assistant coach last season, has been chosen over former Sofapaka and Kenya under 23 coach coach Ezekiel Akwana.

The decision was made after the the club held interviews for the coaching positions on Friday 9 December 2011.

Awono will take over the club's head coach duties with immediate effect, with the Kibunja Peace Cup clash with AFC Leopards, set for Saturday 17 December 2011, just round the corner.

Passed test

Gor Assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala confirmed the news to Futaa.com.

-Awono is the new Gor Mahia Head coach.

-He has been appointed after the club held interviews for the position and having satisfactorily reached all our requirements, we saw it prudent to name him coach, he disclosed.

Awono takes over from Zedekiah Otieno, whose contract with the club expires in January 2012.
