Arsenal win controversial cup tie

Theo Walcott
Arsenal won a controversial Capital One cup game at Reading on Tuesday, as they made an unlikely comeback from 4-0 down, to win 7-5.

Controversy erupted when the Gunners scored the equalizing fourth goal almost six minutes into added time, as the fourth official had indicated only four minutes of added time.

Frustrated Reading players and officials harangued match officials as the center referee blew the game over as soon as Arsenal scored the fourth, to send the game into extra time.

Reading had started off the brighter and more composed of the two sides, and the Premier :League newcomers made the most of that start, when the sprang to a four goal lead, with all the goals coming within 37 minutes of the first half.

Jason Roberts put Reading ahead on 12 minutes, before Laurent Koscielny made it two for the home side five minutes later.
It was three just a minute later as Mikele Leigertwood scored from the restart, to leave the Gunners with a mountain to climb.

But the woes of Arsenal was not over, as Noel Hunt scored a fourth, to give Reading an unlikely 4-0 lead.
The Gunners fought back in the second half, as Theo Walcott pulled one back  deep into first half injury time, to keep the score at 4-1 on the half.
Oliver Giroud scored a second on 64 minutes, then Koscielny redeemed himself a bit with a third on 89th minute.

Koscielny was then lucky to remain on the pitch, when he fouled Jason Roberts, but he escaped a second yellow, another incident that became significant in the light of what unfolded later.
Theo Walcott then missed a chance to pull Arsenal level as his angled shot was deflected for a corner two minutes into injury time.

Walcott will go on to draw Arsenal level five minutes into added time, before Marouane Chamakh made it five after 103 minutes, but there was still time for more drama.

Pavel Progrebnyak will equalize for Reading, scoring the 10th goal in an extra ordinary game in the 117th minute, before Walcott completed his hat trick, yet again in added time of extra time, to make it 6-5.

Chamakh then pounced on a long ball three minutes into added time in extra time, to make it 7-5
